Sligo Borough Council - Treacy Avenue Energy Efficiency Works

Client:                                     Sligo Borough Council

Description of Works:

The Project comprised the complete refurbishment of existing occupied Sligo Borough Council houses. The existing houses were decanted to allow refurbishment works to occur. The works to the houses which required their complete refurbishment consisted of the total strip out of the existing houses.  The houses were then refurbished to provide top quality living accommodation.

Kilcawley Construction acted as Main Contractor and Project Supervisor Construction Stage on the Project

The construction specification required the fitting of wall and attic insulation to increase the BER rating and meet the current building regulations. The insulation used was a 10mm Aeogel bonded to Fermacell board. This insulated board which was fitted to the internal walls increased the BER rating while at the same time minimizing internal floor area loss. The original timber suspended ground was replaced with new insulated concrete floors.  New oil fired condenser boilers were fitted as were new thermostatically controlled radiators. The Local Authority used the project as a pilot test in relation to the use of Demand Controlled Ventilation technology.  All joinery, floor, wall and ceiling finishes were replaced. A complete replacement of the electrical and plumbing installation was also carried out.   The effect of carrying out the works to the existing houses raised the BER rating from F to C1.

The project was carried out in a live estate of approximately 110 dwellings situated along a main thoroughfare into Sligo City.  The ability of Kilcawley Construction to carry out the complex project along a main thoroughfare in Sligo Town is clearly demonstrated by the fact that the project is accident / incident free and to the highest quality.
