Teach Laighne Civic Offices, Library and Administration Centre is a two storey building which accommodates a library, local authority offices, courtroom space for the western circuit, facilities for the HSE and community space.
The construction process required demolition of part of the existing building and the retention of the two town houses which were incorporated into the overall building complex. The key features of the building were a front stone façade set into the street, with large glazed curtain walling to allow free flow of natural light into library and reading rooms. This was also enhanced with light from the large circular roof lights set into the zinc roof.
The internal of the building has two distinct features, with one side catering for the library which is separated by a stone feature ramp and full height fire rated glazed screens. All the other building facilities are provided over two floors, with a central glazed void to provide full benefit of natural light to all building users.
The building received the RIAI Special Award, AAL Award and the Tidy Town 2006 Architectural Award.
