Kilcawley Construction acted as Main Contractor & PSCS for this €1M project, a 1000 m² development constructed on a green field site, involving steel frame, cladding, architectural blockwork and full mechanical & electrical fitout. The completed facility provides An Post with a state-of-the-art delivery sorting unit (DSU) for the midlands region.The design team for this project included OKM Architects, Concannon Healy Heffernan Consulting Engineers and Semple McKillop services engineers.
Our role comprised:
• The development of a construction stage Health & Safety plan which was submitted for approval by the Client and PSDP and in turn circulated to all subcontractors
• Development of site-specific method statements e.g. traffic management plan for the safe movement of construction traffic and all other road users
• Coordination of all subcontractors involved on the project and review / approval of subcontractors’ safety, environmental and quality documentation
• Coordination meetings with the Client, PSDP, subcontractors and others involved on the project, including fortnightly progress meetings detailing programme status and all matters regarding health, safety, environment and quality on-site
• Coordination and implementation of permit-to-work system for sub-contractors, HSE site inductions, all day-to-day procedures on-site and site audits
• Kilcawley Construction also coordinated and compiled all relevant manuals and documentation for the project. The safety file was submitted to the Client on completion
Project Details:
The project was the construction of a new Delivery Service Unit (DSU) comprising a single storey portal-framed building clad in composite panels and forticrete block. It included a reception area, mail sorting area, office accommodation, toilets, washrooms, kitchen, canteen, locker rooms and loading bay with entrance canopy. Our scope of works also included site development, surface and foul drainage including storm water attenuation system, fire mains, site services, car parking and site fencing. The contract also included: mechanical services installation; air handling unit, air extraction system, gas fired heating system and electrical services installation; fire alarm systems, lighting protection, voice and data, intruder alarm, CCTV and automation.
