Kilcawley Construction is one of Ireland’s longest established contracting companies. In 1934 the founders made “Excellence in Construction” their mission, and this is still the core philosophy around which our business revolves today.

Early contracts reflected socio-economic changes in a developing Ireland, and included Public Housing projects in Sligo town, Primary and Post Primary Schools, Letterkenny and Sligo General Hospitals. Other landmark projects included Ballycastle Church Co Mayo, Friary Sligo Town, National Irish Bank Sligo, Ceide Fields Visitor Centre Co Mayo, which won the RIAI ‘Gold Medal and “Excellence in Construction Awards”.

In the 1990s Kilcawley Construction saw how multinational investment in the economy was expanding, and was quick to react to the needs of organisations planning extensive and complex projects. In 1997 Kilcawley Construction was one of the first construction companies in the west to achieve certification to operate the I.S. EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System (Registration No. 19.251). The system is monitored and internally audited by the Quality Assurance Manager and the effective operation audited by the National Standards Association of Ireland (NSAI).

During the 1990’s, Kilcawley Construction diversified into the pharmaceutical sector, carrying out many projects for multinationals such as Abbott Ireland, Elan Pharmaceutical Operations, Bioniche Pharma, Oriflame Cosmetics, Fort Dodge Laboratory, Kinerton Pharmaceutical Manufacturing R&D and Ballina Beverages.

In the late 1990's and beginning of the new millennium, Kilcawley Construction carried out numerous award-winning projects including the ESB Regional Head Offices, Sligo County Council County Hall, Sligo Institute of Technology Administration Block & Library, Leitrim Central Library, Tubbercurry Civic Offices, Johnston Central Library & Council Headquarters Cavan. In this period, the company was involved in joint ventures and was invited by the National Building Agency to kick start urban regeneration in Sligo. This involved developing the city centre along both sides of the riverbank. Other joint ventures including design & build were the new pedestrian bridge across the Garavouge river at Rockwood Parade, ESB Networks ISP1 & ISP2 Substation upgrades, as part of the (2007-2010) €2.5 billion upgrade of the country’s Electrical Infrastructure.

Kilcawley Construction operates a Civil Engineering Department and has worked on projects such as Kilkelly Main Drainage Scheme, Castlebar Urban Water Supply, Annagart Hydro Scheme Donegal, ESB Substation, Ballina Beverages Waste Water Scheme, Ballina Beverages Storm Water Division, Street Enhancement Projects, Cleveragh Regional Sports Park, and IDA Business Parks Enhancement Works.

In February 2009, Kilcawley Construction was the first construction company in the North West to gain accreditation certification to operate the Safe-T-Cert system. The system is monitored and audited by the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, and the effective operation audited by an independent body nominated by the Construction Industry Federation.

The Kilcawley philosophy is the pursuit of ‘Excellence in Construction’, and this forms the heart of our commitment to our clients and construction partners. To this end, we consistently monitor and improve our Health & Safety and Quality Management systems. We constantly incorporate the principles of sustainable construction into our work places. In July 2009, we rolled out our Environmental Management System (EMS) and gained accreditation and certification to operate I.S. EN ISO 14001 (Certification No. IE -14.0565). The EMS is now operational in all Kilcawley work places and is internally audited by our Environmental Management team. The effective operation is audited by the National Standards Association of Ireland (NSAI) which is universally recognised along with I.S. EN ISO 9001 QMS and Safe-T-Cert as a mark of commitment to excellence.

Today, Kilcawley Construction is committed to the philosophy instilled by the founders more than 80 years ago, to continue to provide “Excellence in Construction” to all our construction partners.
